Abstract
1,154,171. Photographic cameras; photoflash sockets. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 12, 1966 [May 24, 1965 (2)], No. 21017/66. Heading G2A. A photographic camera (10 Figs. 1, 2, not shown) having a socket assembly (15) for a flashcube (16) is further provided with means operatively connecting the film wind-means 14, 45-48 and the socket assembly to rotate a portion 28 of the socket and a received flash-cube, the operative means comprising a rotatable socket cam 45 engaging the socket portion; indexing means engaging the cam to prevent it rotating the socket assembly when a flash-bulb is in a position for an effective exposure; and slip clutch means to rotate the cam with the film wind until engagement of the cam by the indexing means. A flashcube is inserted in the socket so that the centre post (19) of the flash-cube receives a stabilizing stud 33 of the socket, a pair of lugs (20) on the centre-post being engaged by the arms of a square hair spring 32. Insertion of a flash-cube causes an ejection ring 38 and a bifurcated yoke 39 to be depressed in Fig. 3. One leg of the yoke thereby moves a member (43 Fig.6, not shown) forming part of e.g., a shutter speed change mechanism or a diaphragm adjustment mechanism, to a flash exposure control position. An exposure is then made by depressing a release button 13. Immediately before operation of the shutter, a release lever 72 moves a metering lever 68 anti-clockwise Fig. 3 and thereby displaces a metering pawl 58 sideways out of engagement with the cam 54. The pawl is also displaced forwardly by means of a spring, thereby preventing re-engagement of a lug (60, Figs. 7, 8, not shown) of the pawl with the adjacent slot (57) of the cam. Similarly, the lug (63) of a latch lever (62) is also prevented from re-entering the slot (57). After exposure, the film is wound on to the take up spool 45. As the film wind drive gear 46 is rotated, an integral clutch gear 50 rotates the socket assembly via gearing (51-53 Fig.6) until the cam 54 and assembly, have turned through 90 degrees. As the assembly reaches the limit of rotation, the metering pawl 58 and latch lever (62) engage the next slot (57). The cam and assembly are thereby latched against further rotation. Further operation of the film winding mechanism causes the friction clutch (gear 51-plate 52) to slip. The flash-cube and socket assembly may be rotated manually relative to the cam 54. To eject the flash-cube, a button 41 is depressed, thus pivoting the yoke 39 and causing the lugs (20) to move the arms of spring 32 apart. In another embodiment Figs.9, 10, (not shown) the slots (57) are replaced by teeth (76) which engage a spring (77).
