Abstract

1,153,972. Electrolytically depositing chromium. H. DETTNER. Jan.30, 1967, No.4415/67. Heading C7B. Cr is electrolytically deposited from an electrolyte containing at least one compound selected from pyridinesulphonic, quinolinesulphonic and isoquinoline sulphonic acids and salts of these three groups of acids (e.g. Na or K salts). The additive prevents formation of an uneven deposit comprising warts. It may be 3- pyridinesulphonic acid or its Na salt, 8-quinolinesulphonic acid, or 5- or 8-isoquinolinesulphonic acid. It may be used in amounts up to 75 g/l. The Cr in the electrolyte may be provided by CrO 3 . Optional additions to the electrolyte are F containing catalysts (e.g. K 2 Si F 6 ), Ba salts (e.g. Ba carbonate or chromate), H 2 SO 4 and its salts. Fe articles may be coated by the process.
