Abstract
1,153,639. Phenyl ureas and thioureas. CIBA (A.R.L.) Ltd. 8 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 58416/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] The preparation of compounds containing the group -NH.CX.N(R<SP>1</SP>)R<SP>2</SP>, in which X is O or S, directly attached to an aromatic nucleus is described. In specific examples R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are both methyl or together form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen atom. Examples are: (A) 1-phenyl-3,3-dimethylurea from methylamine and phenyl isocyanate; (B) bis(dimethylureido)toluene from methylamine and toluene diisocyanate (mixture of 2,4 and 2,6 isomers); (C) 1 - phenyl - 3 - pentamethyleneurea from piperidine and phenyl isocyanate; (D) N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis (phenylcarbamoyl)piperazine from piperazine hydrate and two moles of phenyl isocyanate; and (E) 1-(p-chlorophenyl)-3,3-dimethylthiourea from p-chlorophenyl isothiocyanate and dimethylamine.
