Abstract

1,152,736. Decorative resin articles. GODFREY BONSACK (DESIGNS FOR INDUSTRY) Ltd. 21 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43100/66. Heading B5A. Deeply curved moulded articles e.g. baths, wash-basins, bidets, shower cubicle fittings &c., are made by applying a coating of a resin to a mould curved in more than one plane, applying a decorative layer thereover and then a second resin coating to the surface of the decorative layer, curing the coatings, at least one of which is at least partially transparent. The decorative layer is preferably porous, the two coatings forming a unitary structure therethrough, and preferably fits the contours of the first coating as closely as possible, or it may be non-porous, the coatings then forming a laminar structure. The decorative layer is preferably applied to the first coating while it is partially cured. The first coating may have an adhesive thereon. One or both coatings may be polyester and the decorative layer may be wool, linen, cotton, silk, rayon, nylon, acrylic resin, polyester, glass fibres or other fabric or a metal mesh, metallic powder e.g. brass or metal foil.
