Abstract

1,152,316. Rotary tablet machine. PENNSALT CHEMICALS CORP. 1 May, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20590/68. Heading B5A. A tablet machine having a rotatable disc 18 provided with die cavities 20 each of which accommodates a pair of opposed punches 16 and 26 which are forced towards one another to compress the material in the die cavity by pressure rolls on opposite sides of the disc (only the lower pressure roll 36 shown in Fig. 2), and a stationary cam 40 following the pressure roll 36 relative to the direction of movement of the disc 18 for moving the punch 26 further into the die cavity 20 is characterized in that an auxiliary roll 44 is positioned between the pressure roll 36 and the stationary cam 40, the auxiliary roll 44 having its contact surface closer to the disc 18 than is the contact surface of the pressure roll 36 so that it contacts the punch 26 to loosen a tablet in the die cavity 20 before it is ejected by the cam 40. The machine also includes a stationary cam above the disc 18 to withdraw the punches 16 after compression of the material. A horizontal cam surface 50 bridges the space between the pressure roll 36 and the auxiliary roll 44 and is no closer to the disc 18 than is the pressure roll 36. The spacing between the pressure roll 36 and the disc 18 can be altered while keeping the pressure roll 36 and auxiliary roll 44 the same distance apart. The pressure roll 36 is eccentrically mounted on a shaft 52 which is keyed by gear 54 to shaft 68. The auxiliary roll 44 is mounted on a guide block 46 which contacts cam 58 eccentrically mounted on shaft 60 which is keyed by gear 62 to shaft 68. Hence rotation of shaft 68 produces the same degree of angular rotation in shafts 52 and 60 with the result that the guide block 46 and roll 44 are moved vertically to the same extent as roll 36.
