Abstract

1,152,129. Production of α,#-olefinic esters and acids. MELLE-BEZONS. 23 Oct., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966], No. 48159/67. Heading C2C. α,#-Olefinic esters and/or the corresponding acid are produced directly from, a #-alkoxy alkanoic acid, using as a catalyst a cation exchange resin bearing sulphonic acid groups. The cation exchange resin may be partially saturated with cupric ions to decrease ether production from the alcohol and to avoid polymerization of the ester. Examples describe the use of a continuous process for producing methyl acrylate and ethyl crotonate using an apparatus comprising a cylindrical reactor and a distillation column.
