Pulley-blocks; brakes for winding and paying- out apparatus.-Jig pulleys for use on inclined roads in mines are provided with a brake comprising a brake-block g secured to a bridge-piece f embracing the shackle d of the pulley a. The block g is held out of contact with the pulley by a spring c, and is applied by cams h<1> pivoted to a nut h on the pulley spindle c and actuated by levers j, j<1>.
