Abstract

Wheels, facilitating detachment of. -Wheels for motor-cycles and the like are constructed so as to be detachable from the frame without disturbing the driving-member. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the detachable wheel hub f is secured between coned seatings j, m formed respectively on the inner ball-bearing hub e and on a flange m of the sprocket &c. l, the latter being mounted on a fitting p adjustably secured to the frame r by a nut q. The wheel is detachably secured by a bolt t, which passes through a distance-sleeve s, the hollow spindle a of the hub e, the fitting p, and the forks r, as shown. To detach the wheel. the bolt t and distance-piece s are removed and the hub c is unscrewed from the sprocket &c. (by means of a tool applied at n), after which the wheel hub f is free to be withdrawn from the hub a. The bolt t may be hollowed at t<1> to contain lubricant, which is forced into the hub, through passages t<3>, a<1>, by adjustment of a screw-cap t<2>. To prevent oil from escaping on to the wheel, a cap a and dished flange e<1>, may be fitted. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the wheel hub f<1> is made to fit the outer shell e<1> of the rollerbearing hub, and is wedged between a coned seating j<1> at one end thereof and the taper driving- pins o<1> projecting from the shaft-driven pinion l<1>.
