Abstract

1,150,792. lnjection-blow-moulding. A.P.L. CORP. 18 May, 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 23089/67. Heading B5A. In an injection-blow-moulding process, communication between the source of expanding fluid and the cavity during the injection stage, is prevented as a result of the injection. The apparatus, Fig. 3, comprises an injection cavity 20 defined by mould halves 24, 26 and core 22, an injection inlet 18 and an inlet 25 for blowing fluid having a pressure-responsive valve 27 having a closure member 44 positioned so that the injected material impinges on the member 44 to close the valve. The valve (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises a sleeve (28), containing air passages (38), encircling a closure member (42) which has a bevelled head (44), there being a spring (64) urging member (42) and sleeve (28) apart by abutting on shoulder (48) of head (44) and shoulder (68) in sleeve (28), the movement being limited by adjuster nut (56) on member (42) abutting against face (78) of sleeve (28). As shown in Figs. 3-7, valve 27 is closed by the injection pressure but is subsequently opened by the fluid pressure for expanding the parison while in the blow-mould.
