Abstract

1,150,434. Fibrous catalyst carriers. SOC. GENERALE DES PRODUITS REFRACTAIRS. 21 April, 1966 [22 April, 1965], No. 17525/66. Heading B1E. A catalyst carrier comprises a mass of mineral refractory fibres which is non- porous and has a rough external surface produced by chemical or thermal attack, the fibres having a diameter smaller than 10Á and a length equal to at least 10 mms. The fibres may comprise SiO 2 , ZrO 2 , ThO 2 , MgO, CaO or C or any combinations thereof. The chemical attack may be achieved with HCl or HF in gaseous or solution form. Heat treatment may involve temperatures of 1200‹ or more. The fibrous mass may be in the form of sheet, strip, paper, fabric, unwoven cloth, down or floss.
