Abstract

1,150,192. Tobacco smoke filters. BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO. Ltd. 13 March, 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 14247/67. Heading A2C. A tobacco smoke filter comprises a tobacco smoke filtering material supporting zinc acetate in conjunction with an organic or inorganic base capable of keeping the surface of the filter material substantially alkaline during filtration. Suitable bases are polyethyleneimine, triethanolamine, sodium acetate, sodium carbonate and borax. The zinc acetate and the base may be added to the filtering material as powders, or as solutions or suspensions followed by freeze drying or drying under ambient conditions, so that the additions remain supported on the material as zinc acetate per se and base per se respectively. The basic material may comprise mixtures of the above bases.
