Abstract

1,149,380. Gripping and hauling attachment for tractors. ESCO CORP. 6 Oct., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966; 21 Feb., 1967], No. 45683/67. Heading B8H. A vehicle for lifting and transporting logs and the like comprises a wheeled chassis 12, a doublesection boom 17 mounted thereon for movement about horizontal and vertical axes, a grapple 84, to engage said logs, mounted on the outer extremity of the boom and a line 114 extending from a winch 110 and around a roller 120 on the underside of the first section of the boom 18 to further engage the logs. The boom is pivotally mounted on a swing frame 26 for movement about the horizontal axis by an hydraulic ram 50 and the swing frame in turn is mounted on the chassis within a support 28 for movement about the vertical axis by a pair of opposed hydraulic rams 104 driving a rack and pinion 106. The line 114 is guided from the winch 110 through apertures 39, 41 in the swing frame 26 by a pair of vertical rollers 128 and a further roller 126. The grapple is a conventional hydraulically-operated two-arm device pivotally mounted to the boom for movement about vertical and horizontal axes.
