Abstract
1,148,973. Electrically heated rollers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 13 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 11567/67. Heading F2U. [Also in Divisions D1, G1, G3 and H5] A synthetic fibre heater includes a metal roller 17 carrying fibres on its surface 41 and mounted on a motor shaft 11 and heated by a stationary coil 67, a thermistor 37 embedded in the roller shell 39 and with leads 35, 36 connecting to a winding 29 provided with a core 27 that rotates with the roller, said winding 29 being inductively coupled with a stationary winding 61 with a core 59. Leads 69, 71 of winding 61 are connected into one arm of an A.C. bridge to detect impedance variations of thermistor 37 and to control the current to coil 67 by a voltage regulator. Winding 61 is protected from coil 61 by heat shields 53, 54. The cores may comprise layers of silicon steel wound on cylindrical members.
