Abstract

1,148,723. Rotary-spindle switches. C.T.S. CORP. 14 April, 1966 [14 April, 1965], No. 16403/66. Heading H1N. In an encased rotary-spindle switch, a rotatable insulating cup-shaped carrier 39, Fig. 2, for the moving contacts 50 is biased towards the fixed contacts 22, 22a by a disc spring unit 40 which takes up axial tolerances of the assembly. Flange 39c of the carrier 39 frictionally engages the base 14 of the casing so that the loading on the contacts is maintained constant and independent of the assembly tolerances. The spindle 24 carries a spring-loaded ball assembly 34 engaging a detent ring 32 and has a projection 37 engageable with an end-stop flange 36 on the ring 32. Driving connections between the shaft 24, spring unit 40 and contact carrier 39 is provided by interengaged axially extending tongues and grooves 41, 44 and (31b, 40a, Fig. 3, not shown). The movable contacts 50 comprise pairs of contact arms 52b ,Fig. 3 (part), extending from opposite ends of a torsion strip 51. The fixed contacts 22, 22a are arranged in two rings bridged by each of the movable contacts 50.
