Abstract

1,148,522. Fuel cell electrodes. ENERGY CONVERSION Ltd. 29 April, 1966 [3 May, 1965], No. 18551/65. Heading H1B. An electrode comprises a plate 3 having two sets of interleaved grooves 4 and 5 as disclosed in Specification 959,557 spaced from a porous layer of electrode material 2 by a woven metal gauze or expanded metal plate 6. This spacer permits gas to pass directly from the inlet grooves 4 to the exhaust grooves 5 without passing through electrode layer 2, thereby permitting the gas supply pressure to be substantially reduced. An electrolyte matrix 1 is sandwiched between the porous layers 2 of adjacent electrodes.
