In an electro-chemical cell for the determination of oxygen comprising a cathode and anode separated by and in contact with a porous e. g. P. V. C. electrolyte carrier, the oxygen being absorbed at the cathode to produce an E.M. F., a battery and series resistance are connected in assisting polarity across the cell to magnify its response. Temperature compensation may be provided by a pair of cells mounted side by side and connected in a bridge circuit, one cell having a standard gas supply.
