Abstract

1,147,693. Cycloalkanols; cycloalkanones. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 19 July, 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 32375/66. Heading C2C. A mixture of cycloalkanols and cycloalkanones is produced by oxidation in the liquid phase of C 8-12 cycloalkanes with a gas containing oxygen in the presence of a compound of boron suitable for ester formation with said cycloalkanol wherein oxidation is carried to a conversion of the hydrocarbon of 2 to 6 mole per cent before the boron is added and hydrolysing the boric esters formed. Suitable boron compounds include boric acid, boric anhydride and alkyl borates and oxidation catalysts may be also be present. The reaction may be continuous or batchwise and the boron compound may be added in a plurality of portions, each portion being added when, following exhaustion of the previous portion, the oxidation of the hydrocarbon has increased by another 3 to 5 mole per cent.
