Abstract

1,147,242. Washing machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 4 Jan., 1968 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 641/67. Heading D1A. An automatic washing machine with controls, e.g. timer 3, accessible through an opening in its top has, on its top, a guide 5 for one wheel of a tumbledryer 4 resting thereon and movable backwards and forwards between stops 7 so as to facilitate access to the conbroils. As shown, guide rails 5 are mounted within the top and parallel to the side walls on suspension brackets 6 carried thereon their ends being bent upwardly to form the stops 7. The rear two wheels 2 of tumble dryer 4 rest on rails 5 and, in normal position, the front of its base rests on rubber grommets 8 on the front of the washing machine top, a trim strip 9 covering the join between the appliances and the back of the washing machine being closed by cover 11. When the washing machine is to be serviced, strip 9 and cover 11 are removed and the front of the dryer is tipped upwardly so that it may be moved forward to its limit as determined by stops 7 to uncover sufficient of the washing machine. The washing machine controls could be at the front or side. The tumble dryer need only have two wheels.
