Abstract
1,147,135. Electrophotography. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 10 March, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 11323/67. Addition to 1,039,245. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic plate sensitive to X-rays is made by firing orthorhombic PbO, mixing the fired oxide with an insulating binder, coating a conductive member with the mixture and heating the coated member, all these operations being carried out in a dry atmosphere. The oxide has a purity of more than 99À9% and a particulate size less than 10Á. The binder may be polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, P.V.C., alkyd resin, polyphenylene oxide or polybutyl methacrylate whilst the conductive member may be Al, Cu, Ni, Zn, brass, stainless steel, paper, conductively coated cellulose acetate, polystyrene or polyethylene terephthalate or glass coated with SnO, Al or In 2 O 3 . A coating of paraffin wax may be applied to the plate to give a hard surface, alternatively an opaque coating may be applied to the plate to exclude visible light. The oxide is fired in an inert atmosphere at 300-600 C. or in a dry air at 100-300 C. or 500-700 C. thereby introducing O 2 to provide P-type conduction.
