Abstract

1,145,068. Endless conveyers. A. SERAGNOLI, E. SERAGNOLI. and M. SERAGNOLI, (trading as G. D. SOC. IN ACCOMANDITA SEMPLICE DI ENZO SERAGNOLI E ARIOSTO SERAGNOLI]. 6 May, 1966, No. 20005/66. Heading B8A. Apparatus for transferring articles 21 between two endless conveyer belts 22, 40 arranged in parallel spaced, partial side by side relation comprises a pusher 45 moving transverse of the belts to transfer articles from the first belt 22 to the space therebetween and then to the second belt 40. The space between the two conveyer belts is occupied by an elevator 37 to raise articles into a storage magazine 77 whereby articles may be stored or released to smooth outthe supply and demand of the respective conveyers. An article 21 from a delivery machine A passes along conveyer 22 in direction 25 and below an arm 28 to close a switch 29 and energize a relay (115), Fig. 5 (not shown). The relay (115) has a delayed closing action, so that individual articles or trains of five or less do not close the relay. The articles abut a stop 36 and build up along the belt 22 in front of the pusher 45 until an article is stationary below the arm 28 when an electromagnet 55 is energized by the closure of the relay (115) to engage a cam follower 48 connected to the pusher with a cam 46 and thus move the pusher transverse of the belts. The articles are pushed forward and under a roller 87 arranged to guide the articles on the conveyer belt 22 and to lift when the articles pass thereunder on to the elevator and thence to the second conveyer belt 40. When the receiving machine (B) stops, a switch (105) is closed thereby to energize an electromagnet 67 and engage a cam follower 66 in a slot 65 of a cam 63 to move the same longitudinal of the drive shaft 47 and engage a further cam follower 59 attached to the elevator and thereby raise and lower the elevator in phase with the pusher. On raising the articles, arms 78 at the base of the storage magazine are forced apart to permit entry into the magazine and then shut to retain the articles. A switch 86 actuated by an arm 85 displaced at the top of the storage magazine 77 stops the delivery machine when the magazine is full. If both machines are functioning and the delivery machine stops, the pusher 45 is stopped in the fully retracted position and then restarted after a delay sufficient to permit articles on the belt 22 to reach a position in front of the pusher. Switches (113), (114) are also closed by the stoppage of the delivery machine (A) and when the pusher is in the fully extended position switch (76) is closed by a cam (72) on the pusher to energize a relay (125) which in turn energizes an electromagnet 80 to open the arms 78 and permit the retrieval of the articles in the storage magazine. The pusher 45 then transfers the articles on to the conveyer belt 40. A further switch (112) closed by the stoppage of the delivery machine energizes a relay (123) to close switch (124) and on closure of a switch (74) by the cam (72) on the pusher, a relay (119) is closed to energize an electromagnet 33 to lower an arm 30 across the conveyer 22 and prevent movement of articles therealong. When the delivery machine is restarted switch (109) will open to de-energize relay (117) and stop the pusher 45 at its fully retracted position, switches (113), (114) will open to de-energize relay (125) and close the arms 78 of the storage magazine. The switch (112) is also opened to de-energize relay (123) with a delayed opening of switch (124) of a period at least equivalent to a cycle to allow one lifting stroke of the elevator 37 to clear any articles thereon or between the arms 78 into the storage magazine. The delay of relay (123) and the self excitation of relay (119), through switch (93) actuated from a cam (91) attached to the cam (46) maintains the arm 30 in the down position until the pusher moves across the belt 22 and the side 89 thereof retains the articles on the belt 22. The arm 30 rests in a slot 88 along the edge 89 of the pusher.
