Abstract

1,144,719. Controlling fire doors in ships. J. SCHOENROCK. 14 April, 1967 [6 Dec., 1966], No. 17279/67. Heading A5A. [Also in Division E2] A centrally controlled, hydraulically operated apparatus for closing fire protection doors aboard a ship above the bulkhead deck thereof while simultaneously allowing for the possibility of the manual opening of any of said doors is illustrated with reference to Figures 1 and 2 and has each door 1 and frame fitted with a double acting hydraulic piston 5 and cylinder unit 3 which may be biased in either direction by means of a centrally operable source of hydraulic pressure (switchboard 26, hydraulic pump 14 and fluid container 43) and which unit has similar discharging capacities at each end, and wherein either the piston or cylinder part of the unit is rigidly connected to the door with the other part being rigidly connected to the frame; said apparatus being characterized in that the two ends of each of the cylinders are interconnected by a by-pass line 11 having a normally closed manually operable valve 12 therein whereby the opening of any of said valves allows the associated door to be opened manually. In Figures 1 and 2, the hydraulic fluid is supplied to the cylinders by supply lines 18 and 19 which have interposed therein a reversing valve 20 for interchanging the flow of fluid.
