Abstract

1,144,626. Spreaders for lifting load containers. BROMMA SMIDES och MEKANISKA VERKSTAD A.B. 12 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967; 15 Nov., 1967], No. 6759/68. Heading B8H. A lifting spreader for cargo-containers has extensible ends 2, 3, Fig. 1, provided with guiding rollers which run in a main frame 1 and are spring-loaded so that when a certain load is exceeded they are pushed into the ends 2. 3 so that the latter are directly supported by the main frame 1. The ends 2, 3 are extended by rods 6 moved by rams or racks and pinions. To prevent play between the ends 2, 3 and the main frame 1, remotely adjustable abutments are provided within the frame 1. Hinged sensing members 15 are provided. These comprise upper portions 21, Fig. 5, and lower portions 24. The latter contain remotely operated electromagnets which hold the sensing members to the corner coupling members on the cargocontainers thereby damping oscillations of the spreader. The magnets are resiliently mounted in recesses 27.
