Abstract

1,144,430. Insulators. DOULTON & CO. Ltd. 17 Jan., 1968, No. 2528/68. Heading H2C. A supporting insulator comprises an assembly of nested conical insulator elements 12 . . . 20, and a conical member 50 nested with the element 12 and having an axially-extending portion 52 to which a metal hardware piece 45 is secured, the member 50 and elements 12 . . . 20 having approximately the same coefficient of thermal expansion, that of the piece 45 being substantially different. The space 62 within member 50 may be substantially filled by making the walls thereof much thicker, or by a separate filler piece, Figs. 4, 3 (not shown). Several assemblies may be secured together to form a stack, Fig. 5 (not shown). The member 50 and elements 12 . . . 20 are preferably made of porcelain.
