Abstract
1,143,955. Dyeing with ingrain dyes. COURTAULDS Ltd. 30 June, 1966 [30 June, 1965], No. 27656/65. Heading D1B. Polyamide, acrylic, and modacrylic textiles are dyed with ingrain dyes by treating with a solution of ingrain dye in presence of an ampholytic surfactant having an anionic character at the pH of the solution, gradually lowering the pH of the solution whereby the anionic character of the ampholytic surfactant is reduced so that the rate of exhaustion of the ingrain dye is controlled and then treating the textile with an alkaline solution to insolubilise the dye taken up. Preferably long chain amino-acids are used as surfactants and a pH range of 7 to 5 is desirable during the process. The pH is controlled by use of ammonium salts e.g. ammonium acetate and preferably two baths a) one containing dye and ampholytic surfactant and b) one containing an alkaline insolubilising solution are employed.
