Abstract
1,142,927. Bending tubes. HILGERS MASCHINEN-UND APPARATE-BAUANSTALT m.b.H. 20 Sept., 1967 [1 Oct., 1966], No. 42759/67. Heading B3E. In a tube bending machine in which axial compression is applied to the tube as it is being bent, the tube is clamped between jaws mounted on a carriage movable axially of the tube, the jaws moving in a plane which is inclined at an angle of about 45 degrees to the horizontal. The carriage 12 is slidable along the guide 11 by an hydraulic ram 13 and carries a fixed jaw 14 and a movable jaw 15. The jaws are held to the carriage by dovetail guides, the movable jaw being attached to a block 17 and being moved in the clamping direction by the straightening of toggle links 19 which are connected to an hydraulic cylinder assembly 18. The direction of movement of the jaw is at an angle of 45 degrees to the plane in which the tube is bent, so that the bent end 10<SP>1</SP> can be brought close to the unbent part 10 of the tube.
