Abstract

1,142,427. Electromechanical filters. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Oct., 1967 [8 Oct., 1966], No. 45505/67. Heading H3U. A filter comprises a piezo-electric body in the form of a short cylinder having on its end faces an excitation electrode (shown shaded in the drawing). Ri denotes the inside radius and Ru the outside radius and in accordance with the invention Ri is at least equal to 0À1 Î Ru. Further, the radial width b of at least one electrode either meets the condition that lies between 0À5 and 0À7 or meets the condition b that lies between 0À8 and 0À9. The Ru-Ri above-mentioned factor of at least 0À1 ensures that the fundamental resonant frequency is well spaced from the next resonant frequencies and the latter may thus be easily suppressed by simple electric networks. The first condition above-mentioned determines the width b such that the first resonant frequency subsequent to the fundamental frequency is rigorously suppressed. The second condition above-mentioned determines the width b so as to rigorously suppress the second resonant frequency subsequent to the fundamental frequency and enables the filter to operate at the fundamental frequency and also at the first subsequent frequency. The cylindrical body may be polarized so as to exhibit remanent electric polarization in the axial direction and may consist of a polycrystalline titanate, niobate and/or zirconate of one of the alkaline earth metals.
