Boards 4 preferably of wood chip-board, which form a floor surface, are secured over the tops of resilient shims 3 by fixing means such as rails or screws 5 which pass through the shims and engage with inserts 2 incorporated in a cementitous base 1. The gap between the base and the board may be filled with insulating material. The shims 3 may be of hard rubber and the inserts 2 of plastic composition.
