Abstract

1,141,567. Latches. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 17 Aug.; 1967 [14 Sept., 1966], No. 37966/67. Heading E2A. A car door latch having a bifurcated bolt 28 pivotally mounted at 30 has a shoe 58, e.g. of nylon, pivotally mounted at 60 which, as the striker (moving in the direction of the arrow 84) moves into the base 38 of the opening in the bolt during the latching operation, is rocked so that its surface 94 presses downwardly on the striker to prevent vertical oscillation. The shoe engages an enlarged head of the striker whereas the bolt is engaged by a shank of the striker. The shoe is spring-loaded into the position shown and is guided against lateral movement by the bolt on one side and by a ridge (70), Fig. 2 (not shown), pressed out from a frame plate on the other, or in a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the shoe has bearing ridges on either side. In the same modification, the pin on which the shoe pivots carries an inner rubber sleeve (106) surrounded by a metal sleeve (104) to allow the shoe a small degree of translational movement. The bolt 28 has steps 40 and 42 on its periphery which are engaged by a detent 46 to hold the bolt in safety and fully latching positions. The detent may be rocked to release the bolt by a solenoid 56. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 994,564
