Abstract

1,140,406. Electrostatic separators. NATIONAL ENG. CO. OF CANADA Ltd. 13 June, 1967 [21 Nov., 1966], No. 27178/67. Heading B2J. Apparatus 10 for separating from a particulate mixture particles having dissimilar contact potentials comprises a stack of inverted V-shaped dividers 25, 40, 45 with shorter and longer legs facing opposite sides of the stack. Contact feeders 17, 35, 43 along one side of the stack support the particles, and electrodes 29, 41, 46 along the other side deflect and attract particles as they fall over the edges of the contact feeders, so that the attracted particles flow along the surfaces of the longer legs of the dividers. After a final stage 47, 50, 51 the separated particles are removed by screw conveyors 57, 69. The dividers and contact feeders may be made of or surfaced with dielectric abrasion-resistant surfaces. Each short leg has an end projection to assist particle build-up on its surface. The contact feeders may be curved, provided the particles build up to a pile having a natural angle of repose.
