1,138,190. Fluorinated furans and hydrofurans. IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP. (N.S.C.) Ltd. 9 Sept., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 44915/65. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises (a) tetrafluorofuran, and (b) a mixture of isomers of hexafluorinated tetrahydrofuran having the empirical formula C 4 H 2 F 6 O. Tetrahydrofuran is fluorinated by passage over heated CoF 3 to give the mixture of isomers of the formula C 4 H 2 F 5 O. This mixture may be converted to tetrafluorofuran by dehydrofluorination. Tetrafluorofuran may be reacted with Br 2 to give a compound of the formula C 4 Br 2 F 4 O.
