Abstract

1,137,842. Refractories. MONSANTO CO. 21 Jan., 1966, No. 2968/66. Heading C1J. A mouldable refractory composition consists of (a) 1-10 wt. per cent water, (b) 1-8% of an acid of an oxide of phosphorus or a mixture thereof, (c) 1-8% of a polycarboxylic acid and (d) the balance being one or more refractory metal oxides, with or without 3- 15% of a refractory clay. The refractory oxide may be alumina, titania, chromia, hafnia or zirconia. The phosphorus acid may be ortho, pyro or meta-phosphoric acid or ortho, or pyro-phosphorus acid. Polycarboxylic acids specified are malonic, succinic, malic, maleic, fumaric, racemic, glutaric, adipic, citric, tricarballylic, phthalic, isophthalic, terephthalic, hemi-mellitic, trimellitic, trimesic, pyro-mellitic, mallophanic, prehnitic and mellitic acid.
