Abstract

1,137,160. Cane harvesters. CRICHTON INDUSTRIES PTY. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1966 [24 Nov., 1965], No. 51974/66. Heading A1F. The rotary base-cutter 55 is supported on a telescopic shaft slidable in the housing 57 by operation of a ram 59 to vary the height of the cutter with regard to the harvester frame 15 which is fixed to rear driving wheels 14 and mounted on front steering wheels to be adjustable vertically by operation of ram 37 whereby the height of front crop lifting chains 76 and 78 can be varied. Chains 78 raise canes which have fallen sideways and chains 76 raise canes lying along the row. The raised canes are conveyed between guide bars 127 to a topping cutter 100. This cutter comprises two rotating discs, one of which has a drum of spaced radial blades above it to throw the cut tops against a plate from which they drop into receptacle 125. Ram 104 adjusts the cutter vertically. After topping, the canes are cut at their bases by cutter 55 and are then conveyed laterally by conveyers 84, 85 to a tray 90 from which they are dumped in bundles. The tray may extend longitudinally of the harvester.
