Abstract

1,136,802. Endless scrapper conveyers. SIMON HANDLING ENGS. Ltd. 18 May, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11266/65. Heading B8A. An endless scrapper conveyer mounted within a U-shaped trough 2, 3, 4, comprises a pair of parallel endless chains 5, 6 with a plurality of transverse longitudinally spaced flights 9 suspended therebetween, said chain passing at the ends of their runs over drive and reversing sprockets 10, 11 of a larger pitch circle diameter than the distance between the pitch lines of the upper and lower runs of the conveyer. A pair of jockey sprockets 16, 17 are mounted adjacent the sprockets 10, 11 to bear down on the upper runs of the conveyer chains 5, 6 to guide said chains on to support brackets 7, 8 extending the length of the trough. One of the pairs of jockey sprockets is mounted on a longitudinal slide and connected to a screw-jack 23 whereby the tension in the chain may be adjusted. The sprockets 10, 11 are so positioned relative to the trough that the pitch line of the lower run of the chains is tangential to the lowest point of the pitch circle diameter of the sprockets and the sprocket spindles (12) Fig. 2, (not shown), and hubs 13, 14 are above the maximum level of the material to be transported. Two or more troughs may be joined together at their ends and the adjacent sprockets coupled by a drive chain (25), Fig. 4 (not shown), and driven from a common drive motor (26).
