1,135,874. Washing animals. M. M. GOIKHENBERG, V. N. FILIPPOV, G. I. JURIN, V. V. YASINSKY and J. A. KANAKHIN. 2 Feb., 1967, No. 5116/67. Heading A1M. A stall for cleansing animals, particularly for use in washing the udders of cows prior to milking, comprises a frame provided with entry and exit doors 2, 4 respectively, a movable member 6 carrying a manifold 12 provided with nozzles 13 for supplying cleansing solution, and an arm 10 arranged to contact the hindquarters of the animal during the cleansing operation. The member 6 comprises a cylinder communicating through valve means with the source of milking vacuum whereby the cylinder is moved along fixed rod 5 against the action of counterweight 7. The arm 10 is also connected to the cylinder 6. On entering the stall, the animal actuates switch 17 which operates a pneumatic cylinder 14 to close door 2, lug 11 on door 2 pivoting arm 10 into its horizontal position. Cylinder 6 is then put into communication with the vacuum source and heated washing solution is supplied to nozzles 13 for a predetermined time under the control of a control unit. Exit door 4 is then opened and the animal on leaving the stall operates switch 16 to close door 4 and reopen door 2.
