Abstract

1,135,242. Securing coils for dynamo electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 Aug., 1966 [13 Sept., 1965], No. 38941/65. Heading H2A. Insulated conductors are secured in slots in a dynamo-electric machine stator by tubes of resilient material, also housed in the slots, which are inflated to apply forces to the conductors. As shown, insulated conductors 3 are assembled in slots 2 together with packing 6<SP>1</SP> , 6<SP>11</SP>, 7 and inflatable tubes of silicone rubber 8, 10 and the mouths of the slots closed by wedges 5. Tubes 8, 10 are connected to a pressurized fluid supply through a common manifold and inflated to apply forces to the conductors. Tube 8 applies a radial force, and tube 10, through the action of wedge shaped packing 7, applies a tangential force to the conductors. The fluid may be a viscous non-setting liquid or alternatively, may be compressible in which case the tubes are sealed after inflation. In a modification a single tube (11) lying between the conductors may replace the tubes 8, 10, Fig. 5 (not shown). Alternatively, the wedge-shaped packing and tube 10 may be replaced by a single shaped tube (9), Fig. 2 (not shown).
