Abstract

1,133,138. Casting of resins. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Oct., 1966 [24 Feb., 1966], No. 8175/66. Heading B5A. Resins are cast in a mould cavity which has been evacuated at least to a pressure of 10 mm. Hg. and then filled with the vapour of a substance which boils at atmospheric pressure in the range -40‹ C. to 200‹ C., the evacuation and filling being repeated until no permanent gases are left in the cavity, and the resin is then introduced in liquid form under a pressure of one atmosphere or more, and finally the resin is cured. The substance is preferably water, an aliphatic monohydric alcohol from ethanol to octanol, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorhydrin, butyl glycidyl ether, an aromatic hydrocarbon or an aromatic or aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbon. The resin may be an epoxy resin cured with anhydride or amine, or a glycol maleate/styrene resin with a peroxide curing agent and cobalt naphthenate accelerator.
