Abstract

1,133,084. Nuclear power plant. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 15 Sept., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 39781/65. Heading G6C. In a nuclear power plant, heat exchangers, heated by the reactor, apply steam to both a main turbine and an auxiliary turbine which drives the exchanger feed pump and the electric generators supplying the plant auxiliary apparatus. A stand-by oil-fired boiler provides the steam supply in the event of failure of the main reactor. At the commencement of an emergency, the auxiliary turbine continues to draw residual steam from the heat exchangers and maintains the electrical supply to the supply pump of the oil-fired boiler.
