Abstract

1,133,007. Wire rope. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 9 June, 1967 [10 June, 1966], No. 25959/66. Heading D1T. A stranded rope includes a plurality of wires with a non-migrating filler in the interstices therebetween, an intersheath which encloses the wires and a plastic outersheath overall. The wires can 'be steel or titanium and may be polymer-coated or galvanised. The fillers can be cold-drawn solid strands e.g. polyethylene filaments a thixotropic liquid or grease, e.g. polyisobutylene containing silica or benonite, or a combination thereof. Preferably the rope includes solid strands and steel wires, their cross-sectional areas being in a ratio of 3:1. The intersheath can be (a) metal, e.g. aluminium or copper, having an outer layer of textile tape impregnated with a zinc chromate corrosion inhibitor or (b) a seam welded laminate of aluminium and plastic.
