Abstract

1,132,902. Furnaces for treating granular solids. NIHON CEMENT CO. Ltd. 2 May, 1966 [4 May, 1965], No. 19221/66. Headings F4B and F4U. A cross-flow heating apparatus in which granular material is heated whilst falling in a zig-zag path between rows of inclined grates 33 and 34 on gas inlet and outlet sides respectively, comprises a heating chamber 31, a material removal means 35, a burner 36, a flame deflecting wall 37 and partition walls 43 attached to the outlet grates 34 to form gas passages having dampers 44 at their outlets to provide adjustment of the gas flowing rate through respective sections of the packed bed. Each inclined grate may have a vertical portion at the top thereof to decrease the accumulation of particles.
