Abstract

[Also in Division C3] A steam autoclaving indicator ink comprises a colour changing heat sensitive pigment composition, a vehicle containing nitrocellulose and either a cellulose ether or a polyvinyl ester and a solvent for said vehicle. The cellulose ether may be ethyl cellulose. The polyvinyl ester may be polyvinyl acetate. The binder component may contain a cyclic ketone polymer. The pigment system may comprise sulphur or a sulphur compound with or without an accelerator and a compound of a polyvalent metal such as lead, cobalt, nickel, cadmium, copper or bismuth. The metal compound may be lead sulphate. The pigment system may contain an alkali such as sodium carbonate. The solvent for the binder component may be a mixture of methylated spirit, cellosolve and isopropyl acetate. The pigment composition preferably contains an inert tinting material.
