Abstract

1,131,491. Superconducting coil. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 23 Nov., 1965 [9 Dec., 1964], No. 50128/64. Heading H1K. In a superconducting coil, the region where initiation of the degrading effects of magnetic field disturbance occurs, is provided with means to reduce the effects. The means comprise (a) embedding the superconductor wire in copper or indium in the initiating region; (b) in a coil of Nb-Zr alloy, providing a length of Nb wire in the region of zero field, Nb not being effected by magnetic field disturbances; or (c) connecting an auxiliary current source across the initiating region thereby reducing magnetism in that region.
