Abstract

1,131,481. Washing vehicle wheels. WILLIAM MOSELEY (ENGINEERS) Ltd. 24 May, 1967 [25 Feb., 1966], No. 8325/66. Heading B7J. Apparatus for washing vehicle wheels 15-22 comprises two parallel frames each formed of longitudinal beams 1 and 2 connected by transverse members, the frames each having rotatably mounted in bearings thereon pairs of rollers 7, 8; 9, 10; 11, 12; 13, 14, the corresponding rollers in each frame being aligned axially and each pair being adapted to support a wheel of the vehicle, the rollers 7, 9, 11 and 13 each being associated with a disc brake 37, 38, 39 and 40 respectively operable in unison by a control 62, and rollers 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14 each being respectively operatively connected with a pump 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32 which supplies washing water to spray pipes 72-80. The spaces in between the rollers are fitted with wire mesh gratings 49-57. The front rollers 7-10 are driven by chain and cog arrangements 41-45 from the rollers 11, 12 which are rotated by the driven wheels 19, 20 of the vehicle. The corresponding pairs of rollers 11, 12 and 13, 14 are connected by links 81, 82. Arrangements 41-45 are located in oil baths. The rollers are prevented from rotating only when the vehicle is driven on or off the rollers. The front rollers may alternatively be driven through a prop. shaft, differentials and a gear-box.
