Abstract

1,131,341. Gear-cutting. REISHAUER A.G. 27 Jan., 1966 [4 Feb., 1965], No. 3641/66. Headings B3B and B3K. A grinding machine for hobbing gears comprises a template 86 on the work-carriage 3 for causing crowning or tapering of a gear by displacing the work. The work and hob may be driven by separate motors or a single motor. (In previous machines, templates have been provided to tilt the work for crowning or the hob has been mounted in eccentric bearing sleeves to permit a transverse crowning movement.) The work-carriage 3 is traversed by an hydraulic device 5 on a saddle 2 under the control of reversing dogs 95, 96. The work is rotated by a synchronous motor 9 through differential gearing 11, 15 which is locked, when straight-toothed gears are being ground, by a gear 32 and a pinned plate 33. For helical gears, the differential is connected to a rack 49 on the carriage 3 through gearing 39, 46. The hob 68, rotated by a synchronous motor 67, is carried on a slide 63 adjustable on slides 64, 65 on a cradle 58 adjusted angularly by gearing 60 on a slide 52 adjustable by a screw 56. The saddle 2 can pivot about a stub 87, Fig. 4 (not shown), in an eccentric bearing 94. The saddle is moved by the cam 86, Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), mounted on the carriage 3 and acting through a follower 83, a lever 82, a shaft 76 and an eccentric 77, 79. Springs 80, 88 take up back-lash and the latter relieves the weight of the saddle 2 to assist in moving it. In operation, with a template 86 as shown in Fig. 1, the eccentric 77, 79 is moved to advance the saddle when the ends of the gear are being ground, so producing a crowning effect. The teeth may be crowned at the ends only by two separate templates 98, 99, Fig. 12 (not shown). For tapering a gear, a straight, angularlyadjustable template is used. Concave or other shapes may also be produced on the gears. The work-drive may be released and the work rotated by the hob. The work is then rolled on the hob by operating a motor 93 which rotates the eccentric 94 and so oscillates the saddle about the bearing 77. The hob may be reciprocated vertically instead of the work.
