Abstract

A shower device for producing uniform drops of water for testing the rain resistance of fabrics comprises a water reservoir 12a formed by an aperture in a transparent plastic plate 12, from which reservoir water trickles through a disposable permeable member 10 and a perforated plate-like member 11 with a hydrophobic surface. The permeable member 10 may consist of a filter paper disc. The plate-like member 11 may be formed of a metal plate coated with paraffin wax, or may be made of polytetrafluoroethylene. The permeable member and plate-like member may be formed as a single unit by partially coating one surface of a permeable element with a hydrophobic substance, leaving uncoated regions corresponding to the perforations in the plate. Water is supplied to the reservoir either through a narrow tube 15 from a funnel 14 or through a polytetrafluoroethylene stopcock (not shown) fitted with a fine control screw. A constant level device (not shown) may be incorporated in the funnel 14. The flow rate of the water may be varied by using more than one filter paper disc, filter papers of different permeabilities and narrow tubes of different length and diameter.
