Abstract

1,130,827. Horizontal electrolytic cells. UDDEHOLMS A.B. Feb.4, 1966 [Feb.4, 1965], No.5090/66. Heading C7B. A horizontal electrolytic cell, particularly a mercury cell for electrolysis of NaCl solution, comprises an anode 1 having a horizontal lower surface 4, a suspension rod 2 fastened to the anode and extending through an opening in the cell lid 13 with an elastic seal ring 15 to close the space therebetween, suspension means, e.g. comprising a base plate 12 with support 11 above for a vertical screw-threaded rod 8, engaging the rod 2 and resiliently supported on the ring 15, set screws (16, Fig.2) for adjusting the position of the suspension means against the resilience of the ring, and means, e.g. a rotatable nut 9 for raising and lowering the screw-threaded rod 8, for moving the suspension rod 2. The lower end of the rod 8 may be fastened to a screw head 6 fastening a copper strip 7 to the top of rod 2. The anode may be of graphite or Ti, and the rod 2 of graphite.
