[Also in Divisions D2 and G2] A mirror image printing master is produced by disposing a first transfer sheet 11 behind a printing master blank 3, said first transfer sheet having a coating 5 including a substance absorbent to heat-producing waves and a binder which is meltable below 100‹ C., applying pressure to the upper surface of the blank to transfer a portion of the coating to the blank as mirror image characters 4 on the rear side of the blank, separating the blank from the first transfer sheet, disposing a further transfer sheet (13), Fig. 3 (not shown), against the rear of the blank, said further transfer sheet carrying a coating (7) which is meltable below 100‹ C. and includes a duplicating dye, and transmitting infra-red radiation or a high frequency electric current through the sheet (13) so as to transfer a portion (7a), Fig. 4 (not shown), of the coating (7) to the mirror image characters 4 by differential heating. The coating 5 is supported on a paper backing 12. The pressure is applied to the blank 3 by means of handwriting, a type member of a typewriter, with or without an ink ribbon, or by a letterpress printing machine. The layer (7) may be covered with a protective coating of wax (9), Fig. 8 (not shown). When duplication has caused the portion (7a) to be partly or wholly exhausted, it is renewed using a further sheet (13).
