Abstract

1,129,600. Filling and sealing bags. CARNATION CO. 31 Aug., 1966, No. 38802/66. Headings B8C and B8K. Bags are filled through a pocket formed by pushing inwards a corner, the corner then being unfolded and sealed across the filling open. ing. The invention is particularly applicable to sterile filling, the empty pocketed bag, Fig. 2 (not shown), being initially sealed and the pocket being punctured by a filling tube. The filling tube 18 may be surrounded by a bellows 17 through which flows sterile gas. The bag 11 is clamped against a conical extension 14 of the bellows and the tube descends to puncture the pocket 12. The gas inflates the bag during filling. As the tube withdraws, a barb 22 on its tip draws out the pocket and the bag is then sealed across the corner, Fig. 1 (not shown).
