Abstract

1,129,491. Valves. GOULDING FERTILISERS Ltd. 13 Jan., 1966 [14 Jan., 1965], No. 1591/66. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B8] A seal for the discharge shoot 2 of a cyclone comprises an inner valve, consisting of a cylindrical rubber tube 1 which is secured to outlet of the shoot 2 by a circular band clip 3 and the lower end of which tends to assume a substantially flat condition, and an outer valve inthe form of a polythene sleeve secured to the shoot 2 by a circular band clip 8 and shaped at its lower end so as to ensure the immediate sealing of the tube 7 whenever suction is created within the sleeve. The discharge shoot is of circular cross - section at its upper end, tapers substantially conically towards its lower end, becoming slightly elliptical at the waist 8, from which it is splayed outwardly in one direction and is tapered inwardly in a perpendicular direction. The free end of the valve tube 1 is fitted with U-shaped clips (4) and thereby tends to assume a substantially flat condition. Stiffening members 5 of rubber are secured to the broad sides of the tube 1. In operation, the valves remain closed until accumulation of material in the shoot above the inner valve reduces the suctional effect and causes the valve tube 1 to open.
