Abstract

1,129,407. Photo-sensitive materials. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. April 19, 1967 [April 29, 1966], No.18976/66. Heading G2C. A photo-senitive material comprises a paper support coated with a coloured intermediate layer containing a hydrophilic polyer produced from an ethylenically unsaturated polymer and a pigment with maximum absorption between 3000 and 4400Š and then with a layer of 60-80 parts of cellulose acetate with an acetyl content of 38À4-40À1% and 20-40 parts of a plasticizer, the cellulose acetate layer being hydrolyzed to produce a cellulose hydrate layer 2-4 microns thick and this hydrolyzed layer being sensitized with a diazonium/aldehyde condensate. This material on imagewise exposure and development produces a printing plate. Specified pigments are azo dyestuffs, red lead, cadmium sulphide and lead chromate which are dispersed in a binder of polyvinyl acetate, a poly-acrylic or methacrylic ester or styrene/ butadiene copolymer. The light-sensitive layer may contain a dye such as methyl violet or a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol, gelatine, gum arabic or hydroxyethyl cellulose.
