The invention relates to a process for the production of bis-(4-amino-aryl)-alkanes which comprises reacting a ketone and a salt of an aromatic amine under substantially anhydrous conditions at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of from 120‹ to 250‹ C. The ketone may be acetone, methylethylketone, methylisipropylketone, diethylketone, cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone, cyclododecanone, acetophenone, propiophenone or benzophenone. The salts of aromatic, amine may be the hydrochloride, hydrobromide, benzene sulphonate or p-toluene sulphonate of aniline, 2- and 3- toluidine; 2,6-xylidene; 2,5-xylidene; 3,5- xylidehe; 2-ethylaniline; 2-isopropylaniline; 2-tert.-butylaniline; 2- and 3-chloranilines; 2- and 3-bromanilines; 2-fluoraniline; 2,6-dichloraniline, 2-chloro-6-methylaniline; 2-hydroxyaniline; 2-methoxyaniline; 2-ethoxyaniline; 4-aminodiphenyl or 1-naphthylamine or their corresponding N-mono or N,N-dialkylation products.
